Harassed by debt collectors? Consumers are guaranteed fair treatment according to the law.

Debt Collectors

According to the wording of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts that are owed to others. These individuals fall under the umbrella of debt collection agencies, attorneys who collect debts on a regular basic for clients, and companies who buy delinquent debts and then try to obtain the monies from those debts.

The Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Rights

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is the United State's consumer protection agency, and is in charge of enforcing the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Debt collectors are prohibited by this law from using abusive, deceptive or any type of undermining tactics to collect a debt from a consumer.
